What is Meta Business Agent?

Meta announced Meta Business Agent at its Conversations event in London on June 3, 2026. It is an AI agent for WhatsApp and Messenger that answers customer questions, recommends catalog products, books appointments, qualifies leads and hands over to staff. Meta says getting started is free. Secondary reports say access is still gated by market and account, and Meta has not published a country list, so check your own app.

On the Platform, Meta bills Business Agent messages by tokens from August 1, 2026: $2.00 per million tokens, with a typical message using 20,000 to 25,000 tokens (about 4 to 5 US cents). Those charges apply even inside a free entry window. Meta also introduced a Business Agent Platform for enterprises that names Shopify among the systems it connects to.

What do the Meta One plans include and cost?

Meta launched Meta One on September 15, 2026 and said it is available globally, rolling out gradually, with prices and availability that may vary by region. The business plans start at these prices. Meta has not published the exact usage quotas, so judge the plans against your own volume before paying.

PlanFromWhat Meta lists
Essential$14.99 a monthMore Business Agent access on WhatsApp, verified badge, a verified channel in the WhatsApp Business app, impersonation protection, pending verification
Advanced$49.99 a monthMore linked devices, WhatsApp business broadcast credits, team access without sharing a password, more Business Agent responses

What are usernames, Status ads and Promoted Channels?

Usernames let a customer message you without showing their number. Business usernames do not hide your own number. Our guide on WhatsApp usernames for business explains the rules and the steps to take.

Status ads and Promoted Channels sit in the Updates tab. WABetaInfo reported them rolling out worldwide on February 27, 2026, after limited tests, and noted that users in the European Region can pay to remove ads. For a small store, this is an extra advertising surface, not a feature you must adopt.

What do the new terms and the September 23 policy mean?

WhatsApp Business shows its Messaging Policy as last updated on September 23, 2026, and new terms of service for the WhatsApp Business App took effect on the same date. Read both before you rely on bulk or automated messaging, because WhatsApp's Help Center still lists unauthorized use of automated or bulk messaging as a violation. Our guide on avoiding a WhatsApp Business ban covers the practical side.

Did WhatsApp change its pricing in 2026?

Yes, for the Business Platform. From October 1, 2026, Meta charges for free-form service replies and for utility templates sent inside an open 24-hour window, after a free tier of 1,000 service messages per business phone number per month. If you only use the WhatsApp Business app on your phone, this billing does not apply to you. We explain the numbers in a separate guide on the October 2026 pricing change.

Which of these updates matter for a small Shopify store?

WhatsApp Pilot is a Shopify app that sends order confirmations, shipping updates, cancellation notices and abandoned checkout reminders from your own WhatsApp number, with no per-message fee from us. Pro is USD 15 per 30 days and the floating WhatsApp button is free. It is available at https://apps.shopify.com/whatsapp-pilot.

  • Using only the WhatsApp Business app: reserve your username, review the September 23 terms, and check whether Business Agent or a Meta One plan is offered to you.
  • Using the Business Platform through an app: check your service-message volume against the 1,000 free messages and confirm you have a payment method on file.
  • Selling in several countries: your costs depend on the recipient's country, so check Meta's live rate card on the day you budget.
