How the WhatsApp connection works, and how it differs from the Business API

WhatsApp Pilot links your existing WhatsApp number as an additional device, the same way WhatsApp Web does. You scan a QR code once and the app sends your automations from that number. It is not the WhatsApp Business API.

What a linked device means

WhatsApp lets one number be used on several devices. WhatsApp Pilot registers as one of those devices for your number. Messages your automations send appear in your own WhatsApp app as sent messages, and replies arrive in your WhatsApp like any other chat.

What you need

  • A WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business number on a phone you control
  • A phone that keeps using WhatsApp (WhatsApp logs linked devices out after about 14 days of phone inactivity)
  • WhatsApp Pilot on the Pro plan

Managing the connection

The WhatsApp Connection page in the app shows the current status and the action that fits it. You stay in control of which number is connected.

ActionWhen you see itWhat it does
Connect WhatsAppNo number is connectedShows a QR code to scan with the phone you want to use
Check connectionA number is connectedVerifies that the connection is still working
DisconnectA number is connectedStops future automated messages and cancels pending recovery reminders
Reconnect WhatsAppThe connection was interruptedRestores the connection for the same number

Safety practices built into WhatsApp Pilot

  • Order confirmations only send after you switch on order messages for the connected number.
  • Recovery reminders only send to customers who used the same number at checkout and allowed WhatsApp marketing.
  • Each automated message is sent once per order or checkout; duplicates are blocked.
  • A completed order cancels unsent reminders.
  • No broadcast campaigns, bulk sends or scraping of contacts.
  • Every send and skip is logged in Message History.

Known limits

  • No delivered or read receipts in the app.
  • No interactive buttons; the order status and recovery links are plain tappable links.
  • If the linked device is logged out (for example after about 14 days of phone inactivity), messages wait until you scan the QR code again.
  • WhatsApp's own terms of service apply to your number; use the automations for the customers who expect your messages.

Frequently asked questions

Will my number be banned?

No tool can promise that. WhatsApp enforces its terms on every account. WhatsApp Pilot reduces risk by sending only transactional confirmations to your own customers and consent-based reminders, one message per event, with no bulk campaigns. Keep your templates personal and relevant to the order.

Is this the official WhatsApp Business API?

No. WhatsApp Pilot uses a linked-device connection to your existing number. If your business needs the API (high volume, template approvals, read receipts), a Business Solution Provider is the right route.

How much does the WhatsApp Business API cost by comparison?

Meta charges per conversation or per message by category and country, and providers add their own platform fees. WhatsApp Pilot charges a flat Pro price with no per-message fees from the app. Check Meta's current pricing page for the exact API rates in your country.

Can I change the connected WhatsApp number?

Yes. Disconnect the current number and connect again, or choose Use a different number after a connection loss, then scan a new QR code with the phone you want to use. Automations send from the newly connected number. If the old number still appears under Linked devices in WhatsApp on the old phone, remove it there.

What happens when I disconnect?

Future automated messages stop and pending recovery reminders are cancelled. Your settings and message templates stay saved, so you can connect again later.

Can I use the same number in WhatsApp Business and WhatsApp Pilot?

Yes. WhatsApp Pilot is simply another linked device for that number.
